Abstract
The article analyzes the role and place of service of the peasants and office sat around Grodno economic system in XV - XVIII centuries. Service performed by the peasants of some villages, eventually influenced the change of names of settlements. With the development of commodity-money relations office of the village lost its purpose, and its inhabitants became the so-called siege or tributary peasants.
