FEATURES OF THE POPULATION OF THE NOVGOROD LAND BEFORE JOINING THE MOSCOW

Abstract
The article examines the processes of population movement in the central part of the Novgorod land in IX-XV centuries. The thesis of expanding Slavs and many Finnish-speaking groups of their "parent" of territories and active assimilation of the Slavs Finno-Ugric population. A hypothesis about the origin at the end I - beginning of II millennium AD. two Slavic cultural zones - north-east and south-west; determined by the particular demographic situation at the beginning and end of the period under review.
